Gaza's Hamas-run civil defence announced that eleven individuals, all from the same family, were killed when an Israeli tank shell struck their bus in northern Gaza. Identified as the Abu Shaaban family, they were reportedly on their way to inspect their home.

This incident, occurring in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City on Friday night, stands as the deadliest single event linked to Israeli forces since a recently instated ceasefire began eight days ago.

The Israeli military confirmed that a 'suspicious vehicle' crossed a line indicating areas still under Israeli occupation in Gaza, prompting them to open fire.

According to civil defence spokesman Mahmud Bassal, the family was attacked while seeking to verify the status of their residence. The deceased included women and children.

Israeli forces remain active across substantial portions of the Gaza Strip as the ceasefire agreement is only partially implemented.

The IDF stated their forces fired warning shots towards the vehicle before ultimately resorting to lethal measures, citing a perceived threat presented by the approaching bus.

Hamas has condemned the attack as without justification, alleging that the incident occurred in a context where many local residents are unaware of the shifting boundaries of Israeli control, aggravated by their limited internet access.

Challenges persist as both parties are embroiled in a complex exchange involving hostages and the return of deceased individuals, adding layers to the ongoing conflict.

The recent escalation follows an extensive campaign initiated by Israel in response to an attack by Hamas-led militants on October 7, 2023, which claimed the lives of approximately 1,200 Israelis.

As the humanitarian situation deteriorates, reports indicate around 67,900 casualties in Gaza due to ongoing Israeli strikes, contributing to an urgent call for assistance and resolution amidst continuing violence.
