Sonam Wangchuk ends 26‑day hunger strike amid education protest

India's activist Sonam Wangchuk has ended a hunger strike after 26 days of fasting to support youth activists demanding education reforms.

The 59‑year‑old activist, widely known as "Sonam sir," posted on X that he would end the strike once he secured several conditions from authorities that would prevent possible violence.

Wangchuk’s strike was aimed at backing the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), whose members call for the resignation of India's education minister. During the protest he had lost 11 kg (24 lb) and was forcibly removed from a Delhi protest venue, receiving medical care.
