Poland Confirms Russian Missile Crash Inside Its Territory
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said at a meeting in Lublin that an object crashed into a field near the village of Tarnawa Kolonia, deep inside Poland, was probably a Russian Kh-101 ballistic missile, part of the war in Ukraine.
The 10‑meter crater formed within a rural field about 100km from the Ukraine border, seconds after a Russian strike on Lviv. Polish forces detected the object around 03:40 UTC and sent an F‑16 fighter to intercept it before it disappeared from radar.
Ukraine’s acting foreign minister Andrii Sybiha confirmed that a Kh-101 cruise missile crossed into Poland and violated NATO airspace during Russia’s massive attack. Polish defence minister Wladyslaw Kosiniak‑Kamysz said roughly 20 flying objects were observed near the airspace overnight, and pyrotechnic analysis is underway.
No casualties were reported, but the incident is treated as serious by Polish authorities, who are probing the missile’s origin and type. Tusk also met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Lublin, following Zelensky’s visit to Washington.
