Directors Chris Appelhans and Maggie Kang are riding high on the monumental success of their animated film, KPop Demon Hunters, which has recently surpassed

Netflix's

previous viewership records to become its most-watched title ever, boasting over 325 million views.

During a recent interview, Kang expressed her enthusiasm for future prospects concerning the film, stating, I am excited for the potential for more stories involving animated girl group Huntr/x. While no official sequel announcements have been made, the directors believe there is significant room for further explorations of the characters and their world.

KPop Demon Hunters has achieved a remarkable 95% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes and is now considered a top contender for the upcoming Oscars. Currently, each of the directors is focused on the film's music, with particular attention given to the standout tracks that could be nominated for the Best Original Song category.

The film’s infectious soundtrack includes chart-toppers like the anthem, Golden, which has set a record by securing eight consecutive weeks at number one on the Billboard charts.

While the possibilities of a sequel linger, the directors appear firm on their stance against any live-action adaptations, arguing that the animation format allows for enhanced creativity that would be compromised in live action. As excitement builds for awards season, Kang reflects on the overwhelming connection the film has fostered within the K-pop and animation communities, saying their focus was always on bringing people together through their cinematic narrative.
