Suspected crime boss Daniel Kinahan has been arrested in the United Arab Emirates in relation to alleged serious organised crime offences. Kinahan, aged in his 40s, was apprehended in Dubai over a warrant issued by the Irish courts, according to reports from Irish national broadcaster RTÉ.
Dubai police confirmed that the arrest was executed on April 15 following intensive search and surveillance operations. An Garda Síochána (Irish police) acknowledged awareness of the arrest of an Irish national, who is believed to be involved in an international organised crime network.
This event occurs as part of broader initiatives to tackle cross-border crime. The arrest followed the receipt of a judicial file from Irish authorities that detailed Kinahan's alleged crimes and his involvement in organized crime syndicates.
Consequently, the Dubai Public Prosecution issued an arrest warrant to begin legal procedures for his extradition. Remarkably, Kinahan was captured within 48 hours of the warrant's issuance.
Gardaí stated that the arrest is in line with the bilateral extradition agreement between Ireland and the UAE. They further noted that the situation concerning the Irish national's arrest remains under the jurisdiction of the UAE authorities.
In a statement, An Garda Síochána emphasized the importance of international law enforcement cooperation in addressing transnational organized crime.
