Bull Bison Hits Elderly Man in Yellowstone, Puts Him in the Air
A massive bull bison, weighing around 2,000 lb, rushed toward a 65‑year‑old grandfather at Bridge Bay Campground, slamming him into the air and sustaining multiple injuries.
Viral footage shows the man—identified as Carl Isom‑McDaniel—being struck by the bison’s head. Witnesses reported a painful blow that left him conscious but in considerable pain.
The incident underscores Yellowstone’s reputation for aggressive animal encounters. According to the National Park Service, bison may injure more people than any other species in the park, and they can run three times faster than humans.
With the summer months accounting for 60 % of visitor traffic, authorities stress the need for a minimum distance of 25 yards whenever guests are within range of a bison, and advise against approaching animals for photos.
