In brief

Bruce Springsteen has unveiled a new track titled 'Streets of Minneapolis,' expressing support for the local community amid rising tensions surrounding immigration enforcement. This song comments on the brutal shootings by federal agents and aims to give voice to the oppressed residents. Springsteen dedicates the song to the victims while framing his lyrics within a narrative of resistance against an oppressive regime.

Bruce Springsteen is dedicating his new song, 'Streets of Minneapolis,' to the people of Minneapolis, sharply criticizing President Donald Trump’s immigration enforcement initiatives. The song, released on Wednesday, depicts a city grappling with adversity, echoing sentiments of resistance in its lyrics.

In a statement, Springsteen explained that he composed and recorded the track over the weekend in light of recent violent incidents involving federal immigration agents in the city. He honors the memory of two victims, Alex Pretti and Renee Good, dedicating his work to 'our innocent immigrant neighbors.'

The slow, somber tune begins with simply an acoustic guitar and Springsteen's voice, but gradually expands to include a full band sound, culminating in a powerful chant of 'ICE Out!'

“Oh our Minneapolis, I hear your voice,” sings Springsteen, emphasizing a message of solidarity: “Singing through the bloody mist/We’ll take our stand for this land/And the stranger in our midst.”

This title draws a parallel to his earlier work, 'Streets of Philadelphia,' from the film starring Tom Hanks, further showcasing Springsteen's continued engagement with social and political issues through his music.

Springsteen has long been a vocal critic of the Trump administration, which Trump himself has dismissed as 'overrated.' The two have exchanged barbs publicly, highlighting a fraught relationship between the musician and the political landscape.
