Armed Man Arrested Near Trump's Golf Course Ahead of Presidential Visit
Authorities in California arrested a 38‑year‑old man, Jeanine John Taele, on Sunday after he was seen carrying a pistol and illegal ammunition on the grounds of the Trump National Golf Course in Rancho Palos Verdes.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, the suspect was observed photographing and filming the course while monitoring security activities ahead of President Donald Trump’s fundraising dinner at the venue.
Taele was charged with carrying a concealed firearm and possessing armour‑piercing ammunition, including a loaded magazine of hollow‑point bullets. Federal agents and the Joint Terrorism Task Force searched his home in Downey, uncovering a modified AR rifle, a .45 pistol, body armour, and several high‑capacity magazines.
The investigation is ongoing, with the Secret Service overseeing the case. Officials say no credible threat to the public has been identified, but the incident underscores the importance of vigilant security cooperation between local, state and federal agencies.
The arrest occurred just as Trump is in California to attend a Republican fundraising dinner and deliver a speech critical of Governor Gavin Newsom, amid intensified campaign activity ahead of the 2028 election.
Security protocols for the president have reportedly been reviewed following this and a recent hotel shooting, though no links to the suspect’s motives have been established.
Authorities say the suspect was also wanted for a robbery case in El Segundo, 15 miles north of the golf course.
