Major Cocaine Bust: €5 Million Seized in Kildare
Significant cocaine seizure in Kildare highlights ongoing efforts against organized drug crime in Ireland.
In a swift operation in Allenwood, County Kildare, An Garda Síochána (Irish police) intercepted a vehicle and a residence leading to the seizure of approximately 72 kilograms of cocaine, with an estimated street value of €5 million (£4 million). The authorities arrested two men, aged 50 and 60, suspected of involvement in facilitating the distribution activities for an organized crime syndicate. Following their arrest, both individuals have been charged and are set to appear in Naas District Court. Assistant Commissioner Angela Willis from the Organised and Serious Crime unit stated that this seizure represents a significant blow to cocaine distribution networks targeting the Irish market. "An Garda Síochána, along with our law enforcement partners, remain steadfast in our commitment to combat drug-related organized crime that causes harm, intimidation, and violence in our communities," Willis remarked, underscoring the ongoing challenge of addressing organized drug crime in Ireland.
