Emma Watson Faces Six-Month Driving Ban After Speeding Incident

The beloved Harry Potter star was caught speeding, leading to a temporary suspension of her driving privileges.

Emma Watson has been banned from driving for six months after being caught speeding in a 30mph zone. This comes as the actress, who has accumulated nine points on her license, faces legal repercussions while pursuing her master's degree.

Emma Watson, the famed actress known for portraying Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter series, has been handed a six-month driving ban following a speeding incident. The incident occurred on July 31, 2023, when Watson was clocked driving at 38mph in a 30mph zone in Oxford.

During a brief court session at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court, it was revealed that before the speeding violation, Watson had already accumulated nine points on her driving license. As a consequence, the 35-year-old actress, who is currently pursuing a master's degree in creative writing at the University of Oxford, was ordered to pay a total of £1,044. Notably, she did not attend the five-minute hearing, and representatives for Watson have yet to comment on the situation.

Emma Watson first captured the public’s attention in 2001 with the release of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, joining fellow child stars Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint. Throughout the franchise, she appeared in all eight films, concluding with the last installment released in 2011. Since then, she has expanded her filmography to include notable titles like Beauty and the Beast, The Bling Ring, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. Her most recent film role was in the 2019 remake of Little Women, helmed by Greta Gerwig. Additionally, Watson ventured into the business world by launching a sustainable gin brand with her brother earlier this year.

Meanwhile, another actor from the Harry Potter universe, Zoe Wanamaker, also appeared in court on the same day as Watson. Wanamaker, who is recognized for her role as Madam Hooch, was caught speeding at 46mph in a 40mph zone. Like Watson, she received a fine of £1,044 and has been banned from driving for six months due to already having nine points on her license before the infraction. Both actresses received an endorsement of three additional points on their licenses from District Judge Arvind Sharma.

In other news, a fresh TV adaptation of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series is currently under production by HBO, featuring an all-new cast, including Dominic McLaughlin as Harry and Arabella Stanton as Hermione. The series is anticipated to span a decade in production, reigniting the magic of the beloved franchise.
