Israel Targets Iran's Evin Prison and Fordo Routes Amid Escalating Tensions

Israel has launched a military attack on Iran's Evin prison and targeted access points to the Fordo uranium site, marking a serious escalation in hostilities. Both nations have reported casualties and damage amidst this ongoing conflict.

The Israeli military has carried out strikes on Tehran's notorious Evin prison, which is known for housing numerous political detainees, as confirmed by Iran's judiciary. Reports from Mizan news agency indicate that the situation following the attack is “under control.” Footage captured by CCTV showed a significant explosion at one of the prison's gates, with state television broadcasting images of first responders tending to a casualty and searching through debris for survivors.

Israel's defense minister stated that the airstrikes are aimed at "regime targets and agencies of government repression" across the Iranian capital, including the Evin facility. In tandem, the Israeli forces targeted routes leading to the Fordo uranium enrichment plant situated south of Tehran.

This operation follows a day after U.S. aircraft executed a strike on the underground facility, deploying bunker-busting bombs in an attempt to dismantle Iran's nuclear infrastructure. Additionally, Iranian ballistic missiles have struck various targets within Israel, including an industrial area in Ashdod, sparking electricity disruptions in the vicinity.

The backdrop for this hostility includes a large-scale aerial campaign initiated by Israel ten days ago, with the objective of neutralizing what it labels as existential threats posed by Iran’s nuclear and missile capabilities. Reports from Iran's health ministry suggest that Israeli strikes have resulted in approximately 500 fatalities, although some human rights organizations claim this figure may be as high as 950. In retaliation, Iranian missile strikes on Israeli cities have reportedly resulted in the deaths of 24 individuals, according to Israeli authorities.
