Deadly Aerial Assault in Kyiv Claims Lives Amid Ongoing Conflict
A recent missile and drone attack by Russia on Kyiv results in multiple casualties and significant destruction, sparking international concern.
At least four people were killed during an overnight missile and drone assault on Kyiv, according to Ukrainian Interior Minister Ihor Klymenko. The attack, characterized by strikes on residential areas, hospitals, and sports facilities, notably devastated the Shevchenkivskyi district where an entire section of a high-rise residential building was reported destroyed. Klymenko indicated that some residents were trapped beneath the rubble as rescue efforts unfolded.
In the Kyiv region, a woman lost her life, and two others sustained injuries due to the aerial assault, which regional head Mykola Kalashnyk confirmed. Despite the gravity of the situation, the Russian military has not released any comments regarding the ongoing attacks.
Ukraine's emergency service, the DSNS, reported that at least 13 people, including two children and a pregnant woman, were injured during the hostilities in Kyiv. Eyewitness footage captured the immediate aftermath, showing residents in shock and being escorted from a building engulfed in flames.
Authorities also indicated that several fires erupted across the capital due to the strikes, while damage was reported to one of the entrances of the underground metro stations, where many residents sought shelter during the assault.
The current offensive is part of a recent pattern of heavy aerial bombardments by Russia on Kyiv and various Ukrainian cities. This escalation follows Russian President Vladimir Putin's declaration of a full-scale invasion of Ukraine initiated in February 2022.
