Footage circulating online has captured a stark scene in Gaza, where a surge of Palestinians, driven by desperation, scramble over dirt mounds and breach a fence to reach a humanitarian aid site operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF). Initially captured waiting behind barriers, the moment escalates when an off-camera voice, reportedly with an American accent, shouts directions to the crowd. The chaotic scene quickly turns frantic as individuals rush towards what is believed to be essential supplies.

BBC Verify has pinpointed the video’s location to the SDS1 distribution site located west of Rafah, confirming it was filmed on Tuesday. GHF, a contentious entity, operates with backing from the US and Israel, striving to provide aid to Palestinians directly, which has led to the United Nations and other organizations refusing cooperation on the grounds that it undermines established humanitarian principles.

The footage was shared by Alon Lee-Green, an Israeli anti-war activist, who claimed to have received it from an employee linked to "the American company in Gaza." While it remains unclear whether this refers to GHF or a private security contractor employed at these aid sites, Lee-Green expressed through social media that the event was "apocalyptic," underscoring the gravity of the humanitarian crisis, stating, “This is what starving people look like, rushing for food while risking their lives.”

The ongoing conflict has severely restricted the presence of international news organizations in Gaza, complicating efforts to authentically report on the conditions that residents face.
