Sole Survivor of Air India Crash Lays Brother to Rest Amid Tragedy

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, who survived the tragic Air India plane crash that claimed numerous lives, attended the funeral of his brother Ajay, a fellow passenger. Ramesh, still recovering from his injuries, was visibly shaken as he served as a pallbearer. His story of survival amid devastation continues to resonate as investigations into the crash unfold.

 

Vishwashkumar Ramesh, the sole survivor of last week’s devastating Air India flight, attended his brother Ajay's funeral in Diu, India. Ajay was also a passenger on the ill-fated Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which tragically went down shortly after takeoff from Ahmedabad, resulting in the loss of at least 270 lives.

Amid heavy rainfall, Ramesh, visibly injured and bandaged, carried his brother's coffin to the crematorium alongside his mother, who wore a blue sari and walked beside him, reflecting the depth of their shared grief. The townsfolk, mourning the loss of 14 community members aboard the flight, gathered to support the family during the emotional procession.

Despite the trauma of his own survival, Ramesh had initially attempted to return to the burning wreckage in search of Ajay. Eye-witness accounts detail how he was guided to safety by a local ambulance driver, Satinder Singh Sandhu, who recognized the danger of further attempts to enter the crash site.

Emerging from the wreckage battered and in shock, Ramesh expressed disbelief at his survival. He recounted feeling ready to succumb to death before realizing he was somehow alive, adding to the mystery of how he navigated the perilous situation. Ramesh was seated directly behind his brother, marking their loss even more profound.

As investigations continue into the cause of the crash, which has become one of India’s most tragic aviation disasters, officials are recovering evidence from the flight's black box to better understand the incident. For Ramesh, the anguish is compounded by the stark contrast between his miraculous survival and the tragedy that befell his family and all the other passengers aboard.
