Argentine composer Lalo Schifrin, best known for crafting the iconic theme of the Mission: Impossible series, has died at the age of 93. The news was confirmed by his son, Ryan Schifrin, who attributed his father's death to complications from pneumonia. Schifrin, whose career spanned more than six decades, had a distinct percussive and jazzy style that resonated throughout over 100 film and television soundtracks.

An acclaimed artist, Schifrin was nominated for six Academy Awards and won four Grammy Awards, three of which were for his unforgettable theme for the 1966 Mission: Impossible TV series, which later evolved into themes for the Tom Cruise-led movie franchise. In a heartfelt statement, Schifrin's family noted that he "passed peacefully" while surrounded by loved ones, expressing gratitude for the public's supportive messages.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences honored Schifrin's genius, acknowledging how his compositions "built tension" and lent "pulse" to countless stories.
