The Argentinian authorities are undertaking an extensive investigation into Payne's final hours at CasaSur hotel. Preliminary toxicology screenings indicated the presence of alcohol, cocaine, and a prescribed antidepressant in his system. The autopsy concluded that his cause of death stemmed from "multiple trauma" inflicted by the fall, accompanied by "internal and external haemorrhage."

In efforts to gather more evidence, authorities have conducted nine raids on residences around Buenos Aires. They are also working on analyzing Payne's damaged laptop and other seized electronic devices as part of the ongoing inquiry.
