First Gazan Child Arrives in UK for Critical Medical Treatment
A 15-year-old boy injured in the ongoing Gaza conflict has arrived in the UK, marking a significant milestone for humanitarian efforts.
Majid Shaghnobi's arrival in London marks a crucial development in humanitarian efforts to provide medical assistance to children affected by the ongoing conflict in Gaza. The 15-year-old was severely injured last year while trying to get humanitarian aid in northern Gaza when a tank shell exploded nearby, shattering his jaw and injuring his leg. Undergoing extensive treatment in Gaza before being evacuated to Egypt in February, Majid is now set to receive surgery at Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.
This initiative, organized by Project Pure Hope, aims to assist Gazan children with severe injuries, and is funded by private donations. On the announcement of his journey, lead surgeon Professor Noor ul Owase Jeelani emphasized the importance of restoring Majid's facial function, hoping to improve his quality of life.
Majid's case highlights the urgent need for international aid as the number of injured children in Gaza continues to rise sharply, prompting advocates for humanitarian relief to call for swift action. Project Pure Hope hopes to transport more critically injured children from Gaza to the UK, as the ongoing conflict has devastated the healthcare system in the region.
