**Gaza Aid Contractor Exposes Allegations of Gunfire Against Civilians**

A former contractor reveals shocking claims about aid operations in Gaza, leading to heightened concerns over humanitarian practices.

A contractor's allegations of unruly gunfire at civilians during aid distribution highlight systemic issues within Gaza's aid operations, prompting calls for intervention.

A former security contractor affiliated with the newly established Israel- and U.S.-backed aid distribution sites in Gaza has come forward with alarming accusations. Speaking anonymously to the BBC, he reported witnessing his colleagues fire on unarmed Palestinians who were merely seeking food. The contractor claimed that on one occasion a guard opened fire from a watchtower, targeting a group of vulnerable individuals—women, children, and the elderly—who were moving too slowly away from the area.

In response to these disclosures, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF) categorically denied the allegations, insisting that no civilians had ever been shot at its distribution sites. GHF's operations commenced at the end of May, amid the backdrop of an 11-week blockade that deprived Gaza of essential supplies.

Criticism of the GHF has surged, as reports indicate that Israeli forces have killed over 400 Palestinians attempting to access food through these distribution channels. This Israeli initiative, officials argue, is designed to prevent assistance from reaching Hamas, although many have pointed out the dangers posed by forcing individuals to navigate active combat zones.

Continuing with his troubling account, the former contractor recounted an incident at a GHF site where guards indiscriminately opened fire at aid seekers. "As that happened, another contractor opened fire at the crowd," the whistleblower recalled. He described a disturbing atmosphere where contractors were liberally instructed to shoot if they felt threatened, creating a culture devoid of accountability or ethical guidelines.

Despite GHF's claims of having delivered over 52 million meals in a matter of weeks, many aid organizations, including prominent charities, have called for the foundation's closure. These groups assert that both the Israeli military and armed factions regularly target Palestinians during aid attempts. The ongoing Gaza conflict escalated dramatically following a Hamas attack on Israel in October 2023, which left thousands dead in both regions. With rising humanitarian concerns, the former contractor's revelations shine a light on the troubling dynamics of aid distribution in war-torn Gaza.
