Escalating Drone Strikes Leave Over 100,000 Without Power in Ukraine
More than 100,000 Ukrainian homes have been left without power due to the latest Russian drone attacks on energy infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky. The strikes affected the Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions, marking a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict.
In a recent post on Telegram, Zelensky described the strikes as part of a broader policy by Moscow aimed at destroying civilian infrastructure as winter approaches. Last year, Ukraine reported that Russia had already damaged half of its electricity-generating capacity.
However, Ukrainian forces have been conducting retaliatory strikes, targeting Russian refineries and oil depots, showcasing a shift in the dynamics of the conflict.
On Wednesday, Zelensky noted that nearly 100 drone attacks had been carried out overnight, primarily targeting energy facilities, alongside a school in Kharkiv and an apartment building in Kherson. He emphasized that new measures were necessary to exert pressure on Russia to cease its attacks and ensure security, as efforts to collaborate with international partners are underway.
Despite nearly four years since the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, ground fighting remains prevalent. Recent reports indicate that Russian forces have entered the Dnipropetrovsk region for the first time, although Ukrainian forces have managed to halt their advance.
Additionally, Russia's defense ministry claimed the capture of a village in Donetsk, despite suffering high casualties, indicating ongoing military operations in the region.
