The man, who is a legal permanent resident, sought help through the courts and discovered that his daughter had suffered alleged sexual abuse while under government care. “She was so long in there,” he lamented, highlighting the negligence that led to this tragedy. He spoke anonymously to protect his daughter’s identity as a victim.

Last year, following President Trump’s administration's new immigration policies, children like the man's daughter faced extended detention times. The changes aimed to tighten existing legal frameworks governing the care of immigrant children.

Various struggles ensued, including the father's inability to secure a fingerprint appointment for family reunification amid bureaucratic delays. Allegations revealed that an older child in the foster care facility had abused his daughter.
