WASHINGTON (AP) — A U.S. Park Police officer shot during an ambush was released from the hospital Tuesday, as reported by the Park Police on its X account. The officer, whose name has not been disclosed, was injured on Monday evening while driving an unmarked vehicle in a Washington neighborhood close to the Maryland border. Park Police Chief Scott Brecht stated in a press briefing that the officer was working on an ongoing investigation when two gunmen opened fire. Although the specifics of the investigation remain undisclosed, the officer sustained a shoulder injury, as confirmed by a law enforcement official who preferred to remain anonymous. The shooting is currently under investigation by both the Park Police and Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department, who are searching for the two suspects involved in the attack. Washington’s interim police chief, Jeffery Carroll, indicated that it appeared the officer was deliberately targeted, suggesting that the assailants might have known he was a police officer. Federal officials are also providing assistance in the ongoing investigation.
