President Trump in a blue suit and red tie

President Donald Trump’s push to rename artificial intelligence (AI) as ‘Super Intelligence’ (SI) may be behind a record‑breaking 2,100 % surge in .si domain registrations, Slovenia’s national registry says.

On 11 September, Trump addressed the UN General Assembly and declared that the word “artificial” makes AI sound “fake.” He urged a shift to the term Super Intelligence, he said, “It’s not fake, it’s actually amazing.” The call coincided with a sudden tidal wave of new domain registrations in Slovenia, according to spokesperson Klara Herman.

Herman reported that 44,000 new .si web addresses were registered in September, compared with fewer than 2,000 in the previous month. She warned that the activity, which she described as "unprecedented," could be driven by cyber‑squatters looking to profit from speculative purchases.

On 30 September alone, 11,000 new registrations were logged. “One possible explanation for the purchases is cyber‑squatting – where people suspectively register domain names in case they increase in value later on,” Herman said.

An executive order issued by Trump’s administration instructs U.S. departments to use SI and Super Intelligence in all official correspondence, websites, and reports, effectively banning the label AI. The order has already fueled online parody, including a widely shared image that humorously misprints “United States” beneath Trump’s signature.

The renaming initiative has sparked global curiosity about the lasting impact of political rhetoric on technology terminology and the commercial world. Whether the surge in domain names reflects genuine interest in the new terminology or opportunistic buying remains to be seen, but the rallying cry from the U.S. president is already reshaping internet nomenclature, at least in Slovenia.
