BULVERDE, Texas (Quanta Report) — A tragic shooting incident was reported at Hill Country College Preparatory High School on Monday, where a 15-year-old male student shot a teacher before fatally turning the gun on himself.
The Comal County Sheriff's Office stated that the young shooter died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The injured teacher has been transported to a hospital in San Antonio; however, there have been no updates regarding her condition.
The school went into lockdown at approximately 8:34 a.m. local time, just before classes were scheduled to begin at 8:55 a.m. Witnesses reported hearing multiple shots followed by screams, prompting a swift response from the school administration.
Students were subsequently evacuated to a nearby middle school, where parents anxiously awaited their reunions. Jesse Lopez, a parent of one of the students, expressed concern about the psychological impact the incident would have on his daughter, who has autism, fearing she may be reluctant to return to school.
As the investigation continues, concerns grow over the safety of students and staff at educational institutions across the nation.
The school, part of the Comal Independent School District, specializes in a STEAM-focused curriculum, designed to prepare students for college and careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. It has been operational since August 2020 and currently serves around 260 students in grades nine through twelve.
