ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Two people have lost their lives and one person has been injured following a shooting incident at the South Carolina State University residential complex. The university confirmed the alarming situation, which resulted in a lockdown of the campus that lasted approximately eight hours, beginning around 9:15 p.m. Thursday and lifting around 5 a.m. Friday.

As of now, the identities of the victims and the condition of the injured individual have not been disclosed by university officials. Eyewitness Kaya Mack, who had just completed a food delivery on campus when the shooting occurred, described the moment she heard gunfire and witnessed a heavy police presence. ‘Their loud sirens kind of shook me,’ she remarked. ‘We were looking around, me and other people on campus, we’re all looking around like ‘What’s going on?’’

The university has enlisted the State Law Enforcement Division to conduct a thorough investigation into the shooting as law enforcement continues to patrol the campus and surrounding areas. In light of the tragic events, the university has canceled classes scheduled for Friday and provided counseling support for students in need.
