ORLANDO, Fla. — The Orange County Sheriff’s Office announced Friday that the death of 32-year-old Kevin Rodriguez Zavala, which occurred after riding a dual-launch roller coaster at Universal Studios, has been deemed accidental. The sheriff's report indicated that security footage showed Zavala appeared engaged and well at the beginning of the ride, but was found unresponsive with severe facial trauma at the end of the experience.

Zavala’s girlfriend, who accompanied him, alerted paramedics to his wheelchair use and that he had a congenital spinal condition. However, family attorneys maintain that his disability was not a factor in his death on September 17.

The autopsy confirmed Zavala passed away due to blunt-impact injuries sustained during the ride, which propels riders to speeds of up to 62 mph (100 kph). The investigation was concluded with this determination, and Universal paramedics noted difficulties in releasing Zavala from his secured seat following the incident.

Universal Studios inaugurated the ride earlier this year, and the tragic incident has raised discussions about safety protocols in amusement parks. A spokesperson for attorney Ben Crump, representing Zavala’s family, has not yet responded to media inquiries regarding the report.
