Three dead, several injured in Seattle food festival shooting near Space Needle
In the late afternoon on Sunday, gunfire erupted at the Bite of Seattle food festival near the iconic Space Needle, leaving three people dead and several others wounded, including a two‑year‑old boy.
Police report that two suspects were engaged in a shoot‑out with each other; one was arrested and the other remains at large. Authorities say the incident did not pose a broader threat, but residents were advised to stay away from the area.
The festival, which draws about 350,000 visitors each year, was in its final day when the shooting occurred. Emergency services treated four people who were injured; a fifth declined medical attention.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson thanked police for their swift action and called the event “an act of horrific violence.” Washington Governor Bob Ferguson also expressed sympathy for the victims and urged ongoing support for responders.
The investigation continues as Seattle Police and the FBI work to identify motives behind the shootings and the remaining suspect.
