Scooter Champion Crosses Australia Coast‑to‑Coast

Bob Brown, a 57‑year‑old veteran of extreme adventures, finished a coast‑to‑coast challenge that spanned 2,800 miles (4,506 km) from Perth to Sydney in just over 31 days. The kick‑scooter run was a bid to break two Guinness World Records: the fastest crossing of Australia on a non‑electric scooter and the first person to complete the route by running, cycling, then scootering.

Brown began his journey in July and reported that the 31‑day, 4‑hour, 10‑minute expedition was marked by both triumph and mishaps. He clipped a wing mirror on Day Five, skidding onto a hard shoulder, and on the final day, a broken handlebar sent him tumbling down a steep hill. “He emerged relatively unscathed but the falls forced me to push harder,” Brown said.

The rider’s past includes a 2001 run across the continent (3,000 miles / 4,828 km in 60 days) and a 2003 cycling feat that made him the first Briton to have both run and cycled the country. For this latest challenge, he hoped to raise £5,000 for MacMillan Cancer Support, St Luke’s Hospice and Children’s Hospice South West.

He has already submitted his documentation to Guinness and will wait to see if the organisation confirms his record attempts. Brown said, “I wanted to inspire youngsters to step away from screens and find adventure.”
