Russian attacks kill 12 in Kyiv, including six rail workers

At least 12 people were killed and 20 injured, according to Ukrainian officials, during a night of missile and drone attacks launched by Russia against Kyiv and its surrounding region. Among the dead were six railway workers employed by the state company Ukrzaliznytsia.

The strike hit a rail depot in Kyiv, destroying infrastructure and cutting critical lines of supply for the city. Russian authorities described the raid as a “massive strike using high‑precision weapons” aimed at Ukraine’s military and energy installations, and they noted that one Ukrainian was killed during counter‑strikes on Russia’s Belgorod region.

This incident follows a day when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged President Vladimir Putin to end the war, striking a diplomatic note that places additional pressure on the Russian leadership. Moldova’s energy networks remain a key target of Russian forces, with warnings issued over the weekend about anticipated large‑scale assaults on power facilities.

Zelenskyy’s office confirmed that nearly 350 rescue teams operated overnight in Kyiv and the surrounding areas, responding to the latest wave of flights that allegedly included both jet drones and ballistic missiles.

The attacks also affected the surrounding towns, with Boryspil reporting four fatalities after a residential building was struck. An Indian national was among the victims, according to Interior Minister Ivan Vyhivsky.

Russia’s ongoing strategy appears to be aimed at saturating Ukrainian air defenses and lowering civilian morale over the next several days. Analysts note that repeated strikes on infrastructure, especially rail and energy nodes, serve to disrupt logistics and energy supply, thereby influencing the conflict’s broader operational dynamics.
