Evacuation Orders

Out of the roughly 140,000 people in the affected zone, 42,000 have been ordered to leave immediately, while 45,000 are being urged to prepare for an exit should conditions worsen.

Fire Status and Impact

Ablaze since Saturday morning, the fire has expanded across more than 10,500 acres (8,200 hectares) and is still 0% contained.
Six individuals have sustained injuries, including three emergency responders actively fighting the blaze.
Windy, unpredictable weather continues to fan the flames, making containment efforts more difficult.

Emergency Measures

Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency for Washoe County and ordered the National Guard to assist firefighting and law‑enforcement teams. The Guard deployed 72 personnel, a Chinook helicopter, and a Black Hawk to support ground crews.

Living Conditions

Around 13,700 homes fall within the evacuation zone, with two shelters opened to house displaced residents. All Washoe County schools will be closed for Monday, except one, and major road closures are in effect to keep traffic out of the fire’s path.

Residents and visitors are advised to stay inside, monitor local advisories, and seek emergency shelters if their homes become unsafe.
