Suspect arrested after authorities intercepted email detailing a planned attack on Poland's leaders
Police in the Lower Silesia region have detained Jacek Dobrzynski, a 34‑year‑old Polish citizen, on charges of plotting an assassination against Prime Minister Donald Tusk and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz.
The claim came after the State Protection Service, which safeguards ministers, forwarded an email to the police that outlined the attack plan. Polish security services responded swiftly, convening a special meeting on Sunday to assess the threat, which was described as 'deadly serious'.
Tusk said, We are grateful for the swift and decisive action of the police in arresting the suspect. He has been in office since 2023, following a previous term from 2007 to 2014, and previously served as president of the European Council between 2014 and 2019.
Authorities confirmed that the content of the intercepted email included details of potential locations and timing that could facilitate a hostile act against the leaders.
The suspect was identified after police received credible intelligence that the attempted attacks might actually be carried out. He was apprehended in Lower Silesia, a southwestern Polish province.
