MADISON, Wis. — Morgan Geyser, a woman infamous for the Slender Man stabbing case when she was just 12 years old, has been arrested following her escape from a group home in Wisconsin. She cut off her electronic monitoring device
and left the facility, leading to a swift police response. Last seen on Saturday around 8 p.m. with an adult acquaintance, Geyser's whereabouts were unknown for nearly 12 hours, resulting in an alert from the Madison Police Department.
Authorities found her at a truck stop in Posen, Illinois, approximately 25 miles south of Chicago. Since her release from the Winnebago Mental Health Institute earlier this year, Geyser had been living in the group home under supervision.
Geyser initially pled guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in connection with the 2014 attack on her friend, Payton Leutner. During the attack, Geyser and her cohort, Anissa Weier, sought to appease the fictional character Slender Man, believing that failure to do so would result in harm to their families.
Her attorney, Tony Cotton, expressed concern about her disappearance, urging her to return immediately. The details surrounding her departure raised questions about the effectiveness of the monitoring systems in place.
Back in 2014, the shocking incident involved Geyser stabbing Leutner multiple times, with the young victim thankfully managing to survive. The case captured national attention and led to court proceedings that highlighted the influences of internet myths on youth behavior.
Weier, who was also a part of the attack, has since received conditional release from the psychiatric center.
