US President Donald Trump has stated he will not allow Benjamin Netanyahu to annex the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

Speaking ahead of the Israeli prime minister's address to the UN General Assembly, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office: I will not allow Israel to annex the West Bank ... It's not going to happen.

Trump, who is set to meet Netanyahu, also mentioned that a Gaza deal was pretty close. Israel faces mounting pressure to conclude the conflict in Gaza and end the occupation of the West Bank as several Western nations have formally recognized an independent Palestinian state. Some far-right Israelis view annexation as a method to counter this trend.

In Netanyahu's government, ultranationalists have intensified calls for annexing the West Bank outright. Both the UK and Germany have warned Israel against such action, while UN Secretary-General António Guterres described it as morally, legally, and politically intolerable.

On a related note, Trump recently engaged with Middle Eastern leaders who cautioned him regarding the potential fallout of Israeli annexation. Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister highlighted Trump's awareness of the annexation's risks.

Within the context of the ongoing conflict, the humanitarian situation continues to deteriorate in Gaza. During a recent report, numerous civilian casualties were documented, with international humanitarian organizations underscoring escalating conditions.

As discussions unfold, Trump’s forthcoming meetings with key leaders may prove pivotal in determining the trajectory of negotiations concerning both Gaza and broader Israeli-Palestinian relations.
