Germany Attributes Drone Attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport to Russia


German officials have formally announced that Russia was responsible for a drone that landed near Ukrainian cargo planes at Leipzig/Halle Airport on 4 August.

The drone, equipped with a bomb payload, did not explode because the detonator was faulty. Investigators also suspect a second drone collision damaged a nearby cargo aircraft, underscoring a pattern of hybrid tactics that target infrastructure and create confusion.


Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the incident followed the "well‑established pattern of Russian hybrid operations in Europe" and warned Germany should be prepared for future threats. The claim comes after security experts speculated that Russia might have been behind the attack, a charge Russia had denied for months.
