French Ambassador to the Central African Republic Faces Disciplinary Action
France’s foreign ministry has opened disciplinary proceedings against Ambassador Bruno Foucher, the country’s top diplomat in Bangui, after allegations surfaced that he brought dozens of women into his official residence and engaged in sexual activities with some of them.
The claims, which the French weekly Le Canard enchaîné reported cover the period between January and March 2024, raised concerns about a potential security breach, prompting an internal investigation.
Foucher, 65, has served as France’s ambassador to the Central African Republic since 2023. Although he has not publicly responded to the accusations, officials say the administrative process is ongoing and its outcomes remain unclear.
The incident comes at a time when France and the CAR are working to strengthen bilateral relations, having recently been hailed as "complete restoration of relations" by Foreign Minister Jean‑Noël Barrot during a visit to Bangui in March.
For now, the disciplinary proceedings will determine whether the ambassador faces sanctions, potential dismissal or other measures. The French embassy in Bangui has declined to comment.
