General Oleksandr Syrskyi, commander in chief of Ukraine's armed forces, has raised concerns about increasing Russian activity surrounding the key frontline town of Pokrovsk, describing the situation as 'difficult'.

He confirmed that Russian infantry was gathering in the area and mentioned that he had personally visited the frontline for discussions with commanders.

Additionally, he dismissed reports suggesting that Ukrainian troops were effectively 'blockaded' by Russian forces as untrue propaganda.

Recent intelligence has indicated that Russian advances are escalating in and around Pokrovsk, which serves as an important transport and supply hub that, if captured, could significantly enhance Russian operations in the Donetsk region.

In a statement via Telegram, General Syrskyi asserted: 'In Pokrovsk, enemy infantry, avoiding combat, is amassing in the urban area and changing locations, so the primary objective is to identify and destroy them.'

He reiterated that while the situation remains precarious, claims of encirclement of Ukrainian forces in towns such as Pokrovsk and Kupiansk were inaccurate.

As Russian forces have aimed to seize control of Pokrovsk for over a year, holding this position would pave their way toward the larger Ukrainian cities of Kramatorsk and Sloviansk.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has identified Pokrovsk as a crucial target for Russia, noting that Russian troops there outnumber Ukrainian forces by eight to one.

Zelensky remarked on the strategic implications of capturing the town for Russian propaganda efforts in portraying Ukraine as retreating under pressure.

Defense intelligence firm Sybelline has reported that the battle for Pokrovsk has become increasingly intense, with Russian forces enhancing their attempts to infiltrate the city and surround Ukrainian defenders.

Furthermore, a Ukrainian monitoring group, Deepstate, indicated that Russian troops continue to disrupt Ukrainian supply lines and are deepening their presence in the town, warning that the situation is approaching a crisis point.
