Edmonton Sikh temple stabbing leaves two injured, suspect arrested

In the early hours of Friday, a man was arrested after a stabbing attack inside Edmonton’s Nanaksar Gurdwara left two people wounded.

The assault, witnessed around 5 am local time, was described by the Sikh community as a dramatic intruder attack, with an attendee’s copy of the scripture allegedly vandalised.

Police have yet to reveal a motive for the violence and are continuing their investigation.

The incident follows a week‑long probe into threatening calls directed at two other Sikh gurdwaras in Calgary, six miles south of Edmonton, underscoring a growing pattern of hostility toward the community.

Calgary’s mayor, Jeromy Farkas, condemned the calls as utterly disgusting, emphasizing that gurdwaras remain open and welcoming to all visitors.
