PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Authorities in Philadelphia announced on Saturday that human remains have been found in their search for 23-year-old Kada Scott, who vanished from her nursing home job about two weeks ago.
During a press conference, police stated that the remains, located in a wooded area behind an abandoned school, are believed to belong to Scott. However, Deputy Commissioner John Stanford refrained from making a definitive identification, as further confirmation from the medical examiner's office is required.
According to Stanford, the investigation was prompted by an anonymous tip that led them to recheck the site. The remains, which are thought to be those of a woman, were discovered in a shallow grave, indicating that the individual might have been deceased for several days.
We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be done by the medical examiner’s office, Stanford emphasized. There’s still a lot of work to be done.
A spokesperson for the police, Tanya Little, stated on Sunday that there were no new updates, and a message left for the medical examiner’s office was not immediately returned.
The case has stirred up concerns about the justice system, especially following the arrest of Keon King, a 21-year-old man charged with kidnapping, stalking, and other related offenses connected to Scott's disappearance. King was previously released following charges in a similar case this year.
Currently, King’s bail is set at $2.5 million, and he is expected to appear for a preliminary hearing next month. His defense attorney has not responded to requests for comments.
