Crazy Rich Asians TV Series Brings Back Constance Wu and Henry Golding
Four main actors from the 2019 blockbuster are returning for a new eight‑episode television adventure. Constance Wu and Henry Golding will reprise their roles as Rachel Marron and Nick Young, while Ronny Chieng comes back as Eddie, the witty sidekick. Oscar winner Michelle Yeoh is slated for a recurring appearance as Eleanor Young, Nick’s formidable mother in the saga.
The series will pick up immediately after the movie’s finale, exploring the characters and world set in Kevin Kwan’s acclaimed books. Showrunner and co‑writer Adele Lim has expressed excitement: "It is a 'Crazy Rich' family reunion and a sequel we all’ve been waiting for." She added that the writers’ room is buzzing and the crew is eager to share fresh narratives.
Production is co‑produced by HBO and Warner Bros Television and is slated to begin next year. The announcement comes on the heels of Warner Bros’ £110bn merger with Paramount Skydance, marking a broad shift in media ownership and a surge of diverse content.
The original film, which topped the U.S. box office and garnered two Golden Globe nominations, starred an all‑Asian cast and showcased a culture clash when an Asian-American woman meets her boyfriend’s ultra‑wealthy Singaporean family. The book adaptation and film combined humor, romance and social commentary, drawing praise for representation.
Showrunner Adele Lim and director Jon M Chu are serving as executive producers on the series, aiming to elevate the story’s depth while maintaining the vibrant tone that fans love.
