Accident Overview
An Amazon Prime Air cargo Boeing 767‑300 crashed on Sunday night near Miami International Airport after overrunning the runway. Flight data released by the NTSB indicates the aircraft approached at 158 knots—on the high end of the planned landing speed—before overshooting and colliding with ground equipment and vehicles.
Pilot Warning and Flight Data
A pilot warned his colleague several times that the plane’s speed was excessive, but the cockpit’s recorded verbal responses were inconsistent. The NTSB noted that an altitude alarm and an automated “sink rate” callout were triggered during the final minutes, as well as a “too low terrain” warning as the aircraft descended too rapidly.
Sequence of Events After Overrun
After straying beyond the runway, the aircraft struck ground equipment, a white Ford van, and a perimeter fence, then slid past a Toyota Corolla before coming to rest about 1,300 ft beyond the threshold. The late deployment of flaps—the primary authority to reduce speed during landing—suggests the pilots were still managing the aircraft’s excessive velocity.
Fatal Consequences
Five members of the plane‑cleaning crew—a van crew of Rolando Aleman Leon, Yoel Rodriguez Naranjo, Julio C Pineda, Carlos Acosta Fajardo, and Javierkys Reyes Quevedo—were killed. Five others sustained injuries.
