In the Swiss town of Thusis, a massive fire broke out on the second floor of a restaurant that also housed apartments. The flames completely destroyed the building, leaving five people missing and 14 others injured—eight with varying degrees of injury.
Nearly 100 firefighters responded, and a crane was used to open the roof after the stairwell collapsed. The Graubünden police and prosecutor's office are still investigating the cause of the blaze.
People were taken to hospitals in neighbouring Chur, Thusis, Ilanz and Zurich. The Alpine region, known for its winter sports and summer nature activities, is also a popular holiday destination.
Images of the scene show large flames and smoke rising from the roof at night, as well as firefighting crews dousing the building with streams of water.
