In brief

In an early morning incident on February 5, 2025, Brussels police are in pursuit of two masked gunmen who opened fire with rifles near the Clemenceau metro station in the Anderlecht district. According to the public prosecutor’s office, security footage captured the assailants wielding what seemed like Kalashnikov rifles as they fired randomly at the sidewalk while ignoring pedestrians. The armed individuals reportedly fled into the metro station. Willemien Baert, spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office, mentioned that the attack lacks indications of a “terrorist motive.” Following the incident, law enforcement located several bullet casings at the scene.

To facilitate the investigation, authorities closed the Clemenceau and Gare du Midi metro stations for approximately four hours, creating significant disruptions in the public transit system during the response. The situation remains tense as officials continue their manhunt for the suspects involved.
