In brief
Continuous Israeli shelling has left Kamal Adwan Hospital in northern Gaza damaged, resulting in injuries to both patients and medical staff, as officials report that vital healthcare facilities are under threat while the military investigates the attacks.
Israeli airstrikes severely impacted the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Jabaliya, northern Gaza, on Monday, jeopardizing the care of patients and injuring staff members, according to local health authorities. This comes a week after Israeli forces had previously withdrawn from the hospital complex, detaining numerous individuals, including medical personnel. The Gazan health ministry described the ongoing airstrikes as a “distress call that may be the last,” emphasizing the targeted nature of the bombardments that left the high-capacity medical facility struggling to manage casualties from both the attacks and the surrounding conflict. Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyeh, the hospital’s director, reported that intense shelling lasted for over three hours and left teams unable to move to assist injured colleagues trapped in different hospital sections. While the Israeli military is probing the claims from the hospital, it stated that it had facilitated the evacuation of patients and staff from both Kamal Adwan and Al-Awda Hospital, further complicating the medical response in the area under scrutiny for alleged Hamas operations. Israeli officials previously asserted that collateral damage to healthcare facilities was a result of strikes intended for nearby military targets. Such claims face opposition from Gazan representatives and human rights organizations, who maintain that Israel actively undermines essential infrastructure in the region, including healthcare services critical to the civilian population.
