Rescue Operations Underway for Missing Brazilian Tourist on Mount Rinjani
Indonesian authorities intensify search efforts for 26-year-old Juliana Marins, who went missing during a hike.
Rescuers are on a difficult mission to locate 26-year-old Juliana Marins, a Brazilian tourist lost while hiking around the perilous area of Mount Rinjani, an active volcano in Indonesia. The incident occurred early Saturday morning when Marins, who was part of a hiking group, fell from a cliff that borders the trail near the crater. Reports have confirmed that the Brazilian foreign ministry is coordinating with Indonesian officials and has dispatched embassy personnel to assist. As of now, rescue attempts have faced significant setbacks due to severe weather and the difficult landscape.
Rescue efforts initially detected Marins’s cries for help and sightings indicated she was alive; however, as conditions worsened, rescuers struggled to reach her. The terrain is treacherous and cloud cover has impaired the use of drones, momentarily halting progress. Family members are becoming increasingly concerned as they state that the conditions leave Marins without food, water, or adequate warmth for several days.
Witnesses, including fellow hikers, have described the trek as daunting with adverse weather conditions complicating the climb. The Brazilian government continues to liaise with local authorities in hopes of ensuring the safe recovery of Marins. Mount Rinjani remains a popular hiking destination despite its associated risks, having witnessed previous fatal incidents.
