The driver of the vehicle was killed in the explosion, and seven other individuals sustained minor injuries according to police reports.

Authorities stated that the incident took place around 8:40 AM PT (1540 GMT), drawing immediate concerns following a separate but lethal incident in New Orleans that claimed ten lives just hours earlier on New Year’s Day. Las Vegas Police Sheriff Kevin McMahill emphasized the department's heightened awareness regarding public safety in the aftermath of the New Orleans attack, which also involved improvised explosive devices.

Sheriff McMahill commented during a press briefing, stating, “As you can imagine, with an explosion here on an iconic Las Vegas Boulevard, we are taking all of the precautions that we need to take to keep our community safe.” He confirmed that there was no ongoing threat to the public following the event.

Firefighters promptly extinguished the flames engulfing the vehicle, while emergency responders facilitated the evacuation of hotel guests to safer locations. In response to the incident, Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk shared on social media that an investigation by the senior team at Tesla was underway. “Will post more information as soon as we learn anything.
