Ukraine and Russia are set to re-engage in peace discussions in Istanbul, as President Volodymyr Zelensky emphasizes the urgency of the negotiations amidst escalating tensions.

Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky has announced a new round of peace talks scheduled for Wednesday in Istanbul. He revealed the information in his daily address, where he mentioned discussions with Rustem Umerov, the chief of Ukraine's Security Council, regarding a potential prisoner exchange and the anticipated meeting with Russian representatives. This initiative for dialogue comes shortly after U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Russia, threatening “severe” sanctions should a ceasefire not be achieved within the next 50 days.

In a bid to strengthen Ukraine's military position, Washington has also committed to supplying additional weapons, particularly in light of Russia's recent increase in assaults. Although Russia has yet to provide an official response to the announcement of the talks, a Turkish government spokesperson confirmed that the meeting would occur in Istanbul— a city that previously hosted inconclusive negotiations in May and June.
