Faye Hall, an American woman detained by the Taliban alongside a British couple, has publicly warned that Peter, 80, and Barbie Reynolds, 76, are 'literally dying' in prison. Their health has rapidly deteriorated since their arrest on February 1, when they were attempting to return to their home in Bamiyan Province, Afghanistan.

While Hall was released after two months, the Reynolds remain imprisoned under uncertain circumstances, having no clear reason for their detention even after four court appearances.

In her first interview since her release, broadcast on BBC Breakfast, Hall expressed deep concern for the couple's well-being, stating, 'I love them, I know they will be out very soon, don't ever give up.' She highlighted that the Reynolds had lived in Afghanistan for 18 years and ran a charity program that operated under Taliban approval.

After being detained with Hall, the couple has been subjected to harsh conditions, described by Hall as cramped cells in a maximum-security prison crowded with serious offenders, surrounded by barbed wire and armed guards.

Both Peter and Barbie have suffered significant health issues, with Barbie reportedly experiencing severe weight loss, and Peter continues to deal with complications related to previous heart surgery and cancer treatment.

Calling for action, Hall urged the US and UK governments to collaborate for their release, while the Foreign Office confirmed they are supporting the family of the detained couple. The political climate remains tense, as the UK has limited diplomatic presence in Afghanistan following the Taliban's return to power in 2021. Meanwhile, a UN report indicated that without proper medical care, the couple could face dire consequences.

As negotiations continue, their son has expressed grave fears for his parents' lives, stating, 'If they don't get care soon, I fear they will die in prison.' The situation remains critical, with stakeholders demanding immediate intervention to prevent a tragedy.
