NEW YORK (AP) — In a dramatic escalation of his long-running feud with the media, former President Donald Trump has filed a $15 billion defamation lawsuit against The New York Times and four of its journalists. This lawsuit, submitted in U.S. District Court in Florida, targets multiple articles and a book published in the run-up to the 2024 election, asserting that they are part of a decades-long pattern of intentional defamation against him.

According to the court documents, the lawsuit alleges that the defendants published defamatory statements with either knowledge of their falsity or with reckless disregard for the truth. Trump took to Truth Social to announce the legal action, claiming that The New York Times acts as a virtual ‘mouthpiece’ for the Radical Left Democrat Party, accusing the paper of deceitful practices.

The New York Times has yet to comment publicly on the lawsuit. This filing marks a continuation of Trump’s adversarial relationship with media organizations. Earlier this year, Trump targeted The Wall Street Journal with a $10 billion defamation claim related to articles discussing his controversial connections to financier Jeffrey Epstein. As the 2024 election approaches, the stakes appear to rise as Trump seeks to counter perceived attacks from major media outlets.
