Renewed Violence in Ukraine: Eight Lives Lost Amid Russian Strikes
Overnight drone and missile attacks across Ukraine leave eight dead and many injured, as tensions escalate amidst ongoing conflict.
In recent overnight assaults, Russian aerial attacks claimed the lives of at least eight individuals and left over 30 injured in Ukraine, according to local authorities. The Khmelnytskyi region in western Ukraine reported four fatalities, while three deaths occurred in the Kyiv region, along with one in the southern city of Mykolaiv. This wave of violence follows one of the heaviest bombardments Kyiv has experienced since the onset of the Russian invasion.
The Russian defense ministry claimed it successfully intercepted or shot down 95 Ukrainian drones within a span of four hours during extensive operations across several Russian regions, including the capital, Moscow. Fortunately, no casualties were reported from these countermeasures, though they necessitated a temporary halting of all flights in Moscow airports.
The attacks intensified on the same day that Kyiv was celebrating its annual Kyiv Day. Regional chief Mykola Kalashnyk indicated that three people had perished and 10 others sustained injuries. He shared images of residential buildings ablaze following the drone strikes. Local reports indicated 11 injuries in Kyiv, with significant damage inflicted on residential structures, including a student dormitory. The situation forced many residents to seek refuge in the city’s metro underground stations.
In Mykolaiv, authorities from the state emergencies service reported recovering the body of an elderly man from a five-storey building that was struck by a drone, while five individuals were reported injured in the incident. Kharkiv's regional officials also noted three injuries resulting from similar attacks. Meanwhile, Russian officials mentioned that Ukrainian drones had targeted eight different regions in Russia during the same period, underscoring the intensity of the ongoing conflict.
