### Escalating Tensions: India and Pakistan Engage in Mutual Drone Strike Accusations

As conflict escalates, both India and Pakistan engage in a fierce exchange over alleged drone strikes and military actions.

In a dramatic increase in hostilities, India has accused Pakistan of targeting its military bases using drones and missiles, claims that have been fiercely denied by Islamabad. The Indian Army reported thwarted attacks on its military installations in Jammu and Udhampur in Kashmir, as well as Pathankot in Punjab on Thursday evening, coinciding with reports of explosions that plunged Jammu into darkness. Pakistan's Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has dismissed the allegations, asserting, "We deny it, we have not mounted anything so far," emphasizing that Pakistan will not launch attacks and deny them afterward.

Simultaneously, India has claimed to have conducted strikes against Pakistan’s air defenses, stating it neutralized Islamabad's alleged attempts at military aggression against India. This military confrontation has sparked widespread calls for de-escalation from the international community, with the UN and various global leaders urging for calm amid fears of a larger conflict involving the nuclear-armed neighbors—marking the most serious tensions witnessed in over 20 years.

India's military operations reportedly targeted nine "terrorist infrastructure" sites in retaliation for a deadly militant assault on civilians in Pahalgam last month that claimed 26 lives, predominantly of Indian tourists. Despite these tensions, Pakistan maintains that it did not support the attackers and denies the Indian claims surrounding the conflict.

In the days following, cross-border shelling has driven civilians in border areas to evacuate, further inflaming the situation. Pakistan's military spokesman claimed that Indian drones targeted several regions within Pakistan resulting in civilian casualties, including one death and multiple injuries. Meanwhile, India reaffirmed its position that its actions were purely defensive, intended to counter perceived Pakistani provocations.

As the conflict escalates, casualty reports from both sides rise, with Pakistan reporting 31 deaths and 57 injuries from Indian air strikes and line of control shelling, while India reported 16 fatalities, including women and children, resulting from Pakistani fire.

In a late-night address, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed a commitment to avenge the victims of Indian strikes, claiming that Pakistan had downed five Indian fighter jets—a claim that India has neither confirmed nor denied. The recent barrage of violence and accusations indicates a precarious situation, raising serious questions regarding future diplomatic standards and regional stability. With local media reporting further incidents of explosions in Jammu, the international community watches closely, hoping for a resolution to the age-old conflict over Kashmir.
