Instead, fans were permitted to enter the stadium but were met with overwhelming numbers at the gates. Eyewitness accounts describe a scene of pandemonium as excitement quickly turned to tragedy.
Emergency services report that six victims were pronounced dead at Bowring Hospital, with numerous others requiring immediate medical attention for injuries sustained in the stampede. Hospitals reported treating over 30 individuals, raising fears that the death toll could escalate further.
Eyewitness Siddharth H.N., present at the chaotic scene, recounted that the situation became unmanageable, making it difficult for police and stadium personnel to control the throngs attempting to push into the stadium.
